Each piece of dragon armour gives a defence experience bonus of 1.5% of any combat exp gained whilst it is equipped. Equipping the full suit gives a further 1% bonus for a maximum of 10%.

Wearing armour reduces the overall damage you take during combat and also reduces the chance that a creature hits it's maximum hit.
